i also want to say a special word of thanks to general dempsey. i really enjoyed working with marty dempsey. women in uniform have no greater champion. it has been a great treat getting to see him in action and also, as i said to you in the hall, to see with their grandchildren a year or two ago. it is no secret or if it had been, that historically the department of state and defense had not always had the best working relationship. in fact, i have been quite surprised and even amused talking to some of my predecessors who are we will third that we get along. they say things like, you know, that is on. as if i am somehow letting down my side. that i'm not causing you as many problems as i can and trying to push you off stage, as if that were possible. i have been around this town long enough to know that it is an unfortunate and historical precedent. when i became secretary four years ago, i was determined to change that. i like being on the american team. not the state department team, but the american team. when we take these positions and take
